ND doing it with defense
The following is an excerpt from the Peoria Journal Star sectional preview article.
DEFENSE, DEFENSE: It’s been so far, so good for Notre Dame in its defense of the Class 2A state championship.
Following the same blueprint that helped them win the program’s second state title last fall, the Irish have been doing it with defense again in 2009.
After five consecutive postseason shutouts to reach the state finals a year ago, Notre Dame enters the Morton Sectional with 12 shutouts in 22 matches, including six in its last seven.
ND won the Metamora Regional with shutout victories over Central and Metamora to extend a winning streak to 13. During that stretch, the Irish have outscored opponents 63-4.
FAMILIAR FOES: When Notre Dame and Dunlap square off Tuesday night in the second of two semifinals at McClallen Park, it will be the eighth time the teams have met in sectional play since 2000. Of those eight meetings, six have been to decide the sectional title.
