Class of 2008 graduate and All-State forward Nick O’Neill will join the University of Vermont Catamounts this fall after two seasons at Creighton University.

O’Neill comes to UVM after playing the past two seasons at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Originally from Peoria, Ill., O’Neill appeared in 11 matches off the bench for the Bluejay’s as a freshman and saw time in 10 games this past season. He was named to the all-state, all-conference and all-area teams while at Peoria Notre Dame High School where he posted a record of 85-7-8 during his four years. He also won an Illinois State Cup and advanced to the Region II Finals with the Rockford Raptors.
“Nick is a powerful striker who has a tremendous hunger and brings a mature attitude to our program. He is extremely focused on finding success. We are excited to have him join us and play out the final two years of his career here at UVM,” stated head coach Jesse Cormier.
Our quest for a third Illinois high school state championship officially begins Wednesday, August 11th.
Tryout information for both our frosh/soph and varsity teams is listed below.
Varsity Tryouts – 7:00 am-9:00 am & 5:30 pm-7:30 pm
Frosh/Soph Tryouts – 3:30 pm-5:30 pm
Shin guards, soccer cleats, and running shoes are required for tryouts. All tryout sessions will take place at Peoria Notre Dame High School.
Peoria Notre Dame went 2-0-1 in pool play to win their group and advance to the championship game against national power Rockhurst out of Kansas City, Missouri. PND defeated Rockhurst 2-1 to capture the tournament title.

Soon to be senior forward Vince Cicciarelli has verbally committed to play soccer at the University of Notre Dame.
Cicciarelli helped Peoria Notre Dame to a state runner-up finish in 2009 with 27 goals, 20 assists, and an NSCAA All-Midwest selection. He was also named the 2009 Peoria Journal Star Player of the Year.
Cicciarelli, who plays club for St. Louis Scott Gallagher Metro Academy, will join fellow class of 2011 recruits Nick Besler (Overland Park, Kansas), Max Lachowecki (Evansville, Indiana), and Brendan Lesch (Westport, Connecticut) in South Bend.
UND’s 2009 season ended in the second round of the NCAA Championship with an 11-8-4 overall record.
